The Imagination Celebration includes performances by world-class artists; professional development workshops for teachers and artists; exhibits and public art projects by children and youth; participatory arts events for families at schools, libraries, and community centers; and master classes by visiting guest artists.

Aesop's Fables
TheatreworksUSA and Jim West will present a unique version of Aesop's Fables at Salt Lake Community College's Grande Theatre. Noted author and artist Jim West has performed for schools, colleges and theatres across the country for over 15 years. With the help of Aesop himself (and his faithful dog, Moral), Jim and his cast will share well-loved fables, including the Lion and the Mouse, The Tortoise and the Hare and The Fox and the Grapes. This large-scale puppet production also features puppet-making ideas, and the music of Scarlatti, Beethoven and Chopin. Founded in 1961, TheatreworksUSA is America's foremost professional theatre for young and family audiences. Prior to the performances, Global Artways teaching artists will conduct a professional development workshop introducing teachers to the production and pre- and post-performance activities to share with their students.

Children's Opera Showcase
In partnership with Utah Symphony & Opera, the Children's Opera Showcase project begins during the summer with original opera workshops titled Music! Words! Opera! Teachers who attend the workshops incorporate their own variations of the curriculum into their classes during the school year to create original operas with students. With assistance from artist mentors provided by Utah Opera, teachers and their students write text, compose music, create costumes and scenery, and rehearse. The program culminates in school performances of their original works. Several projects are also selected to participate in the public Children's Opera Showcase at the Rose Wagner Center for the Arts Black Box Theatre.

Imagination Celebration Art Workshops
Imagination Celebration Art Workshops held in elementary schools and include original standards-based lessons that connect art to other core curriculum subjects. The workshops will integrate fine arts and this year's theme of social studies. Imagination Celebration Art Workshops have three components: Professional Development Workshops, Family Workshops and the Imagination Celebration Exhibit.
Professional Development Workshops offer teacher training based on national visual arts standards. During these workshops, Global Artways professional teaching artists share innovative teaching techniques that connect art to this year's theme of social studies. Family Workshops take place in the evening and are facilitated by a Global Artways teaching artist. During the workshops, young people and their caregivers work together to create original artwork, Global Artways teaching artists lead each group in an original art-making activity designed to bring young people and their caregivers together in an enriching experience. Artwork selected from each family workshop will be on display at the Imagination Celebration Exhibit. The exhibit runs April 17 through May 14, 2006. Contributing student artists and their families will be recognized at the public exhibit opening on April 17.

Six Tribes One Vibe
This program is designed to bring together incredible Polynesian talents of all ages to depict the culture and importance of folk arts in the Polynesian individual, family and community. Throughout the school year, students from Mountain View Elementary, Glendale Middle and East, West, Highland, Bingham, Granger, and Cottonwood high schools, and youth from community after school programs will learn Polynesian dance, music and culture. Students will then showcase what they learned at in-school performances and collaborate for the final production at Kingsbury Hall.
